Correctional Nurses provide professional nursing care to patients in a correctional setting.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This full-time position is located in the Southern Medical Division of Department of Corrections. This recruitment may be used to fill the current vacancy at Southern Desert Correctional Center (SDCC) in Indian Springs or future Correctional Nurse II vacancies and/or shifts in the Southern Division. The shift hours are 7PM-7AM, Thursday through Saturday and every other Wednesday. The night shift position requires reliability, strong assessment and problem solving skills, excellent intervention and communication skills, be able to work under pressure, adjust to change and the ability to work independently because the night nurse at SDCC works alone. Jail or prison experience is a plus, but is not required. The anticipated orientation will be two weeks on day shift and two weeks on night shift before working independently.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

License as a Registered Nurse and two years of professional nursing experience, one of which was in a correctional or institutional setting; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. |

A Bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or Associates degree in nursing and one year of experience. |
|
Out of state applicants must have a temporary license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada Board of Nursing at the time of appointment and must obtain permanent licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing as a condition of employment. |
|
Probationary employees must successfully complete pre-service training (PST) provided by the department. |
|
As a condition of appointment and continuing employment, positions are subject to call-back, overtime on short notice, stand-by status, and must work various hours and/or shifts including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. |
|
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. |
|
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. |

A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. |
|
CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |
