Correctional Nurses provide professional nursing care to patients in a correctional setting.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff, or they coordinate and provide statewide health-related training programs. This full-time position is located in the Southern Medical Division of Department of Corrections. This recruitment may be used to fill the current vacancy at Southern Desert Correctional Center in Indian Springs or future Correctional Nurse III vacancies in the Southern Division. The Correctional Nurse III will serve as a first level nursing supervisor. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to providing evaluation and resolution of patient medical needs, assisting with nursing duties, assist with inmate grievances, participation in supervisory meetings and providing staff work assignments, training, supervision, evaluation, counseling and discipline. There will be frequent collaboration with the Director of Nursing Services I and may also represent the DONS I at meetings. May be required to cover staffing shortages on short notice, including covering shifts not normally assigned to work.
Ideal candidate will be a team member with a strong sense of responsibility and accountability that is highly independent, with excellent communication, critical thinking and decision making skills who is able to effectively adapt to changing situations and make quick accurate medical decisions. Incumbent must possess leadership skills and be able to lead the medical team independently in the absence of the Director of Nursing Services. **Please ensure your application reflects your current nursing license information. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

License as a Registered Nurse and three years of professional nursing experience in a correctional or institutional setting; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. |

A Bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience.
|

Out of state applicants must have a temporary license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada Board of Nursing at the time of appointment and must obtain permanent licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing as a condition of employment. |

Probationary employees must successfully complete "pre-service" training (PST) provided by the department. |

As a condition of appointment and continuing employment, positions are subject to call-back, overtime on short notice, stand-by status, and must work various hours and/or shifts including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. |

A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. |
