The Position
Accounting Assistants perform clerical accounting work in the maintenance of accounts and accounting records for State agencies.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This intermittent position performs clerical accounting duties in support of a work unit. The successful incumbent will have general knowledge and performance of basic math calculations, computer spreadsheets used for bookkeeping and accounts maintenance. Responsibilities include accessing account information manually or on the computer to respond to routine inquiries from employers or agents; reviewing numerical data and documents to ensure accuracy and completeness; reviewing refund requests for accuracy and authorized signature and entering data into internal system; working independently and following through on structured assignments; composing routine memoranda, letters and reports; and formatting a computer spreadsheet according to instructions. Intermittent positions are used to supplement an agency's fulltime staff. This position currently works a full-time 40 hour schedule and is eligible for all the benefits of permanent employment, including leave accrual, health care and PERS. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent and one year of clerical experience, six months of which included duties such as accounts payable and/or accounts receivable and balancing accounts; and using computer spreadsheet to record, track and report data; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education supplemented by successful completion of a one-semester college course in bookkeeping and six months of clerical experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
