The Position
Public Information Officers manage the public relations and information program for an agency on a statewide basis; write media releases, newsletters, and informational brochures; produce audiovisual presentations and take photographs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. The Publications Coordinator (PC) position is responsible for the writing, design and pre-press preparation for the agency's four annual magazines (Nevada Fishing Guide, Big Game Seasons and Applications Regulations, Nevada Big Game Hunting Guide and the Nevada Small Game Hunting Guide) as well as additional educational materials for the public including brochures, posters, signs and presentations.
The PC develops and monitors statewide inventory of publications; develops and completes a myriad of printing products annually; is responsible for development, oversight and monitoring the agency's budget for publications. The PC handles all graphic design requests including info graphics, logos and graphic elements for magazines and newsletters. As a public information officer, the position also includes writing press releases, media alerts and feature stories, assists in handling media requests and helping with the Department's social media efforts; develops marketing plans, strategies, goals and objectives; coordinate with program staff to ensure marketing objectives are understood, fully supported by agency staff, and contribute to accomplishing the NDOW strategic plan goals and objectives. The incumbent will develop data driven digital marketing strategies and campaigns to increase NDOW awareness; collect and analyze data on customer demographics, preferences, needs, and habits to identify potential influences affecting outdoor participation; and coordinate conservation outreach and communication efforts with non governmental organization. Candidates selected for an interview will be required to bring their portfolio to the interview. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in journalism, English, public or community relations, communications or closely related field and three years of professional experience in administering or directing a public information program including writing media releases and newsletters, preparing and presenting speeches and multimedia presentations, independent media contact, development of public relations strategies and journalistic writing; OR one year of experience as a Public Information Officer I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    The incumbent may be required to work a flexible shift, to possibly include some weekends.
Special Requirements
    A valid drivers license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
    Experience with design and layout software is required.
    Experience developing a public relations/marketing campaign that involves digital media is required.
    Experience initiating, developing, managing, and monitoring contracts for printing, photography and videography is required.
The Examination

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
