The Position
Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
The Nevada Division of Child & Family Services (DCFS) is recruiting for Psychiatric Nurse 2's to actively participate on a multidisciplinary team providing nursing care for children at Oasis Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facilities (PRTF) in Las Vegas, Nevada. Oasis is a treatment facility with five group homes that provide mental health treatment for children ages six to 17. Dynamic work responsibilities include planning, implementing, and evaluating the nursing care delivered to adolescent clients; identifying client health care needs and making comprehensive clinical evaluations; providing input and recommendations regarding nursing care and services; initiating and carrying out therapeutic, recreational, educational, social, and physical care activities; administering medications as prescribed by physicians and monitoring patients for medication side effects and/or allergic reactions; documenting client observations and the effectiveness of planned program activities; assisting in oversight of dietary guidelines; and assisting with quality assurance activities. The incumbent will ensure Oasis maintains a safe, healthy, and therapeutic environment for our clients and nursing care objectives are met in accordance with the nursing association professional standards of practice and consistent with Oasis policy. This is a full-time position with a variable work agreement gaining overtime after 40 hours in a week. Working evenings, holidays, and weekends is required. The Oasis program is licensed through HCQC and accredited through CARF. DCFS also encourages education by providing on-going trainings and paid release time for staff to obtain CEU's. DCFS together in partnership with families, communities, and other governmental agencies provide support and services to assist Nevada's children and families in reaching their full human potential. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and two years of professional nursing experience, one of which included working in a facility or institution with individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities or intellectual disabilities; OR one year of experience as a Psychiatric Nurse I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Notes
    A Bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or Associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience.
    Out of state applicants must have a temporary license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing at the time of appointment and must obtain permanent licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing as a condition of continuing employment.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
