The Position
Radiation Control Specialists determine compliance with federal and State regulation pertaining to radiation; inspect and investigate complaints involving radiation sources and radiation producing devices.
This recruitment is for a Radiation Control Supervisor for Radioactive Materials Inspection, Investigation and Licensing. This position can be located in Carson City or Las Vegas depending on the best applicant and needs of the agency. Supervisory duties include assigning and reviewing work, developing work performance standards, and evaluation performance. The Radiation Control Specialists determine compliance with State and Federal regulation pertaining to radiation; inspect and investigate complaints involving radiation sources and radiation producing devices. The position is specifically responsible for licensing and investigation of radioactive materials statewide to determine potential hazards to the public and implement radiation control regulations adopted by the Nevada State Board of Health pursuant to NRS 457 (mammography) and 459 (radioactive materials/X-ray).

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in radiological science, X-ray technology, health physics, nuclear medicine, chemistry, math, biology, or closely related field and four years of progressively responsible professional experience in comprehensive radiation control programs, meeting federal and state requirements and including licensing and registration, emergency response and management, and investigations; OR one year of experience as a Radiation Control Specialist III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

    Incumbents must comply with all applicable federal and State security and safeguard requirements.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and for continued employment.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
The Examination
RADIATION CONTROL SUPERVISOR (10.538) Training and Experience Exam
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.

1) Describe your experience, including the number of years, conducting investigations regarding radioactive materials and/or radiation producing machines. Please include whether the investigation was regulatory or internal monitoring.
2) Describe your experience, including the number of years, supervising radiation workers.
3) Describe your experience, including the number of years, in the licensing of the use of radioactive materials.
4) Describe your experience writing reports identifying regulatory violations and documenting your findings.
5) Describe your budget and contract experience.
