The Position
Equipment Mechanics maintain, repair, and modify fleet equipment comprised of a variety of light, medium, and heavy automotive and maintenance equipment, landscape equipment, computerized testing equipment, and diesel-fueled electric power generators. 
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. The Division of Forestry's mission is to provide professional natural resource and wildland fire management services to enhance, conserve and protect forest, rangeland and watershed values, endangered plants and other native flora. Incumbents diagnose, maintain, modify, and repair Nevada Division of Forestry fire, conservation camp and forest resource management fleet for the Southern Region, which includes sites at Pioche, Jean, Indian Springs, and Las Vegas. Responsible for keeping equipment in the Division's fleet in good repair for daily operations and emergency response. This includes a variety of light, medium, and heavy equipment. Repairs include, but are not limited to, engine repair or replacement, repairing and rebuilding brake systems, steering and suspension system components, differential and drive line components, servicing of automatic and manual transmissions, electrical and wiring systems. Duties also include repairing, maintaining, fabricating, and installing parts, components, and special use items. Keeping the fleet in safe operating condition is critical to daily operations and in effectively preserving and managing our assets. The incumbent manages the Three Lakes Valley shop in regards to budget and purchasing of parts and materials.
Due to the emergency service mission of the Division the incumbent may be asked to work extended shifts.holidays and/or weekends. Computer and database experience is a plus. Applicants will be required to undergo a Nevada Department of Corrections (NDOC) background investigation prior to be considered for employment. If hired the applicant must complete a 40-hour pre-service training in supervision of inmates. In addition, a Class A with Tanker endorsement is required within 1 year of employment and as a condition of continuing employment. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Completion of a recognized automotive/equipment repair apprenticeship program followed by one year of journey level experience; OR one year of experience as Equipment Mechanic II in Nevada State Service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
    Incumbent is required to furnish their own mechanic's tools.
    A Class A or B com­mercial driver's license is required at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. In addition, federal law required random testing for controlled substances during employment.

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.

1) This position serves as a NWCG certified Equipment Manager (EQPM) and Incident Contract Project Inspector (ICPI) on emergency incidents. Please describe any experience on emergency incidents, including wildland firefighting.
2) This position supervises an inmate labor force within the shop. Are you able and willing to supervise inmates?
3) This position utilizes Fleetmate, a maintenance management computer program to track services and repairs. Please describe your maintenance software experience.
