The Position
Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
The Nevada Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is recruiting for a Psychiatric Nurse I to actively participate on a multidisciplinary team providing nursing care and treatment to children and adolescents with behavioral and emotional disturbances in a 24 hour/7 day a week residential treatment setting. This recruitment may be used to underfill a Psychiatric Nurse 2 position. Advancement to the next level in the series may occur after meeting the minimum qualifications, satisfactory performance, and endorsement of the appointing authority. Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility Enterprise (PRTF) serves children between 6-17 years of age and uses nationally recognized models of care, including a Psychoeducational model, the Trauma Informed Care Model, and Recovery Model. PRTF Enterprise also incorporates Aggression Replacement Training into its philosophy of care. Work responsibilities include but are not limited to providing professional nursing care to adolescents, administering medications as prescribed by the agency psychiatrist and monitoring for side effects, maintaining client safety, coordinating admissions to acute care facilities if youth safety is compromised, coordinating youth admission and discharges, completing referrals, participating in on going professional development trainings, providing quality assurance, and working in the milieu monitoring daily activities while providing psycho-social rehabilitative services.
This is a full-time position and includes a variable work agreement with overtime after 40 hours in a week. This position requires work in the evenings and/or weekend hours. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and one year of professional nursing experience; OR one year as a Registered Nurse I in Nevada State service caring for individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities or intellectual disabilities; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Notes
    A bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience.
    Out of state applicants must have a temporary license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing at the time of appointment and must obtain permanent licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing as a condition of continuing employment.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
Additional Position Criteria
    Positions are subject to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
