The Position
Maintenance Repair Specialists perform a variety of skilled work in two or more of the mechanical and construction trades in order to repair, construct, and/or maintain buildings, grounds and equipment.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position is located at Lake's Crossing Center in Sparks. Lake's Crossing Center is a maximum-security forensic facility for the mentally disorder offender. Under the general supervision of the Facility Supervisor, the incumbent will perform a variety of skilled work in the buildings in order to repair, construct and/or maintain buildings, grounds, equipment and vehicles. Duties include: reading and interpreting plans and electrical schematics; planning projects and laying out materials; estimating materials needed and time required to complete projects; safely performing a variety of skilled work such as plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, painting, welding and HVAC. Additionally, the incumbent will perform custodial duties when assigned. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Four years of progressively responsible experience under the supervision of journey level trades persons in two or more of the major building or mechanical trades which included responsibility for performing a variety of repair and maintenance activities, laying out jobs and ordering materials; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    This position requires an applicant be at least 18 years of age upon application. If selected, proof of being at least 18 years of age will be required.
    Incumbents may be required to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays in addition to their normal work schedules.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    A valid driver's license is required at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting is required.
Additional Position Criteria
    This position requires working outside in all kinds of weather and occasional heavy lifting.
