The Position
Correctional Nurses provide professional nursing care to patients in a correctional setting.
The Nevada Division of Child & Family Services is recruiting for a Correctional Nurse 1 located at the Nevada Youth Training Center (NYTC) in Elko, Nevada. This recruitment may be used to underfill a Correctional Nurse 2 position. Advancement to the next level in the series may occur after meeting the minimum qualifications, satisfactory performance, and with endorsement of the appointing authority. NYTC is a 60-bed secure facility for male youth ages 14 to 18. It is NYTC's goal to promote positive self-growth, create change in behavior, attitudes, values, and ways of thinking. This full-time position will work the hours of 7am - 3pm or 2pm - 10pm. Shifts will include weekends and holidays with overtime after 40 hours in a week. Correctional Nurses are responsible for providing professional nursing care by coordinating and evaluating health care services and treatment for the juveniles in the facility; maintaining pharmaceutical, laboratory, and basic nursing supplies in an organized and efficient manner; conducting weekly doctor clinic; promoting workplace safety; medication administration; responding to medical and psychiatric emergencies; completing documentation; and being available as a professional resource for the facility staff regarding health and safety issues.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    License as a Registered Nurse and one year of professional nursing experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Notes
    A Bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or Associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience.
    Out of state applicants must have a temporary license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada Board of Nursing at the time of appointment and must obtain permanent licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing as a condition of employment.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
    This position requires a valid driver's license at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    This position is located in the northeastern corner of the State of Nevada, in Elko which is situated on the Humboldt River between Reno, Nevada and Salt Lake City, Utah.
