Correctional Nurses provide professional nursing care to patients in a correctional setting.
The Nevada Division of Child & Family Services is recruiting for a Correctional Nurse 1 located at the Nevada Youth Training Center (NYTC) in Elko, Nevada. This recruitment may be used to underfill a Correctional Nurse 2 position. Advancement to the next level in the series may occur after meeting the minimum qualifications, satisfactory performance, and with endorsement of the appointing authority.
NYTC is a 60-bed secure facility for male youth ages 14 to 18. It is NYTC's goal to promote positive self-growth, create change in behavior, attitudes, values, and ways of thinking. This full-time position will work the hours of 7am - 3pm or 2pm - 10pm. Shifts will include weekends and holidays with overtime after 40 hours in a week. Correctional Nurses are responsible for providing professional nursing care by coordinating and evaluating health care services and treatment for the juveniles in the facility; maintaining pharmaceutical, laboratory, and basic nursing supplies in an organized and efficient manner; conducting weekly doctor clinic; promoting workplace safety; medication administration; responding to medical and psychiatric emergencies; completing documentation; and being available as a professional resource for the facility staff regarding health and safety issues.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

License as a Registered Nurse and one year of professional nursing experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. |

A Bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or Associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience. |

Out of state applicants must have a temporary license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada Board of Nursing at the time of appointment and must obtain permanent licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing as a condition of employment. |

A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. |

Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. |

CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |

This position is located in the northeastern corner of the State of Nevada, in Elko which is situated on the Humboldt River between Reno, Nevada and Salt Lake City, Utah. |
