The Position
Program Officers administer a program or major component of a program by planning, coordinating and managing services and activities in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements and established program performance standards and objectives.
This Program Officer 1 position is requested for the Immunization Program in the Bureau of Child, Family & Community Wellness in the Division of Public and Behavioral Health. This position serves as the vaccine storage and handling coordinator for southern Nevada. The Nevada State Immunization Program (NSIP) provides federally and state funded vaccine to private, public, rural, and Federally Qualified Health Clinics (FQHCs) throughout Nevada. This position works under the supervision of the Vaccine Manager and the Quality Assurance Manager and is responsible for ensuring clinics enrolled in the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program, Adult Vaccine program (317), and the Nevada Cocooning Program in the Las Vegas, Henderson, and Pahrump areas store these expensive vaccines in accordance with regulations set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the NSIP. This position is also responsible for installing Digital Temperature Recording Devices (called data loggers) in enrolled and new provider clinics. Additional responsibilities include training and retraining clinic staff on the use of data loggers and interpreting reports generated by the computer-based temperature monitoring system, as well as provide technical assistance to provider staff at any time requested. This position will also be responsible for approving vaccine storage units for newly enrolled providers, conducting unannounced storage and handling visits using currently approved procedures and templates issued by the CDC, and completing enrollment visits for practices enrolling in the VFC, 317, and/or Nevada Cocconing Programs.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business or public administration, or other discipline related to the program assignment; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of para-professional program support experience equivalent to an Administrative Assistant III in Nevada State service which required the application of State and/or federal laws, policy and procedures; reviewing documents prepared by others for program compliance determinations; or preparing reports which summarize financial and statistical information; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

    Some positions may require agency specific experience which will be identified at the time of recruitment.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A State of Nevada/FBI fingerprint based background check is required as a condition of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
    Experience providing or assisting with formal training is required.
    Experience manipulating, installing, and managing computer software is required.
    This position requires the use of a personal vehicle to drive to locations within a 50 mile radius.
