The Position
Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection, Bureau of Water Quality Planning is seeking qualified applicants for an Environmental Scientist III position. The position will assist in the implementation of the Nonpoint Source State Management Plan as determined by the Branch Supervisor, including overseeing projects to prevent, control and abate the impacts of nonpoint source pollution. In this capacity, this position will manage subgrants including developing workplans and budgets, processing invoices and providing project management to ensure success as well as overseeing projects in the field. The position will continue the implementation of the Project WET Program as the Nevada State Coordinator and will help to coordinate public outreach events such as Snapshot Day(s) in the Truckee and the Carson River Watersheds and Earth Day.
Working with external local watershed groups, the successful candidate will assist them to become the primary implementers of nonpoint education programs throughout the state. This position will also coordinate with education programs of other state, federal and local agencies. The successful candidate will be an effective communicator able to create and maintain positive, professional working relationships both internally and externally and will be collaborative and adaptable. The successful candidate will also be able to produce documents that are accurate and technically sound and will be able to present information to a variety of audiences in a professional and articulate manner. The educational component will make up 50% of this position's time. Occasional travel (up to 25%) may be required. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field and three years of professional environmental experience which involved environmental program research and planning; OR graduation from high school or equivalent and five years of professional environmental experience as described above; OR one year of experience as an Environmental Scientist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    This position has a 25% travel requirement.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
