Correctional Nurses provide professional nursing care to patients in a correctional setting.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff, or they coordinate and provide statewide health-related training programs.
The Correctional Nurse (CN) III will work under the supervision of the Director of Nursing Service for the facility and will consult with them on a regular basis. They will be supervising CN IIs including supervising the selection and assignment of duties, performance, evaluations, counseling, and discipline; assure infection control procedures and OSHA guidelines are followed by staff; and ensure staff receives annual training on OSHA guidelines, blood borne pathogens, use of safety engineered sharps, safe work practices and use of personal protective equipment. This position requires working directly with inmates to carry out nursing care assignments. The Nurse will promote optimal health and patient independence; document problems requiring nursing interventions; document patient teaching needs and discharge planning; and communicate care plans to other nurses to maintain continuity of care. **Please ensure your application reflects your current nursing license information. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

License as a Registered Nurse and three years of professional nursing experience in a correctional or institutional setting; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. |

A Bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience.

Out of state applicants must have a temporary license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada Board of Nursing at the time of appointment and must obtain permanent licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing as a condition of employment. |

Probationary employees must successfully complete "pre-service" training (PST) provided by the department. |
|
As a condition of appointment and continuing employment, positions are subject to call-back, overtime on short notice, stand-by status, and must work various hours and/or shifts including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. |

A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. |

A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. |

CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |
