Correctional Nurses provide professional nursing care to patients in a correctional setting.
The Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is recruiting for a Correctional Nurse 2 at Caliente Youth Center (CYC), a 112-bed secure facility for male and female youth ages 12 -18. The CYC's goal is to promote positive self-growth, create change in behavior, attitudes, values, and ways of thinking for youth. Correctional nurses actively participate on a multidisciplinary team to provide nursing care for youth. Dynamic work responsibilities include assessing and identifying youth health based needs; making clinical observations and evaluations; preparing nursing care plans; administering medications as prescribed by a physician; monitoring patients for medication side effects and/or allergic reaction; providing routine, basic, and minor emergency care including stabilization of emergencies while arranging for transport; and ensuring quality of care with established nursing standards and DCFS nursing policies.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

License as a Registered Nurse and two years of professional nursing experience, one of which was in a correctional or institutional setting; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. |

A Bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or Associates degree in nursing and one year of experience. |

Out of state applicants must have a temporary license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada Board of Nursing at the time of appointment and must obtain permanent licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing as a condition of employment. |

As a condition of appointment and continuing employment, positions are subject to call-back, overtime on short notice, stand-by status, and must work various hours and/or shifts including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. |

A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. |

CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |

This position is in the geographic area of Caliente, Nevada located approximately 150 miles north east of the City of Las Vegas. |

This position requires a valid driver's license at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |
