The Position
Health Program Specialists plan, develop, implement and evaluate health services and activities; develop goals, objectives, program requirements and procedures; provide technical information regarding specialized health related conditions; and participate and provide support to various committees, advisory boards and other work groups.
This Health Program Specialist 2 position serves as the Policy and Systems Manager, supervising both the Tobacco Control Program and the Comprehensive Cancer Control Program within the Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (CDPHP) Section of the Bureau of Child, Family and Community Wellness within the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health. This position is responsible for leading the Policy, Systems, and Environmental Change Workgroup by providing leadership and vision and working in a collaborative manner with both internal and external programs and agencies. Priority is placed on leveraging existing resources across CDPHP programs to extend policy efforts and activities. The position establishes the vision and insight which provides policy education to the community, civic organizations, local governments, and academic institutions to further cancer and tobacco control efforts. This position is responsible for staying current on evidence-based practices and utilizing the most progressive, proven approaches to ensure programs are effectively applying population-level interventions. The position should continually search for new funding opportunities.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a health science, behavioral science or closely related field applicable to the program area and three years of health-related experience which included at least two of the following areas: researching, collecting and analyzing data and statistics, developing objectives, protocols and procedures; providing health education services to target groups or the general public; evaluating program effectiveness and accomplishment of desired outcomes to meet [agency,] federal, agency, or other standards and guidelines; providing prevention, identification or treatment services to individuals or populations who have been diagnosed or are at risk of contracting life and health threatening diseases and/or conditions; preparing grant applications and budgets and developing, preparing and administering contracts and reports related to health services; and/or investigation and prevention of communicable or chronic diseases; OR one year of experience as a Health Program Specialist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    This position requires a valid driver's license at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
The Examination
