Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
The Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is recruiting for a full-time Psychiatric Nurse 3. This position functions as a nursing supervisor at Desert Willow Treatment Center (DWTC), an inpatient psychiatric hospital located in Las Vegas, Nevada that provides mental health treatment to children ages 12 to 17. DWTC operates seven days per week, 24 hours per day, with three shifts each day.
As a first-line supervisor the incumbent is responsible for providing work direction, resolving patient care and staffing issues, assigning and reviewing work, establishing work performance standards, evaluating performance, overseeing the tracking of all mandatory training, providing orientation and training to new and existing nursing staff, and providing counseling and discipline as necessary. Responsibilities also include providing assistance in the stabilization of emergencies while arranging for transport; providing direct nursing services when needed; interacting with the patients' families; and ensuring the safety of patients and staff.
This position has the authority and responsibility to ensure that safe and effective patient care is being provided; and assuring compliance with nursing standards, The Joint Commission accreditation standards, Bureau of Health Care Quality, licensing standards, the Legislative Counsel Bureau standards, and DCFS policies.
This is a full-time position with a variable workday agreement, overtime would be received after 40 hours in a week.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and three years of professional nursing experience, two of which included working in a facility or institution with individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities or intellectual disabilities; OR one year of experience as a Psychiatric Nurse II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. |

A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. |
