The Position
Social Workers are licensed professionals who provide case management services to children, families, vulnerable adults with intellectual, developmental, physical disabilities, serious mental illness, and older adults (collectively referred to as "vulnerable adults") and other individuals within local communities and institutions.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The Division of Welfare and Supportive Services (DWSS) employs licensed social workers who have a passion for helping Nevadan's reach their highest level of self-reliance. DWSS social workers provide personalized case management to TANF recipients assisting to overcome significant barriers including domestic violence, mental health, substance abuse, physical disability, learning disability, housing and homelessness, child behavioral issues, CPS involvement, legal issues, parenting skills and pregnant and parenting teens. DWSS social workers are responsible for conducting psycho-social assessments, developing personal responsibility plans, conducting home visits, transporting clients to appointments, case management & monitoring client progress, client advocacy, crisis intervention, developing knowledge of community resources and establishing relationships with community partners. DWSS offers a supportive work environment, promoting both an independent and teamwork approach to client service in the Reno and Carson City areas. DWSS social workers are on duty during standard business hours, Monday thru Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Alternative work schedules such as 4 - 10 work days are an option. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Licensure or provisional licensure as a Social Worker, Clinical Social Worker, Independent Social Worker or Associate in Social Work and one year of professional experience providing case management in a social work setting equivalent to a Social Worker I in Nevada State service.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for fingerprinting.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Licensure or provisional licensure by the State of Nevada Board of Examiners for Social Workers as a Social Worker, Clinical Social Worker, Independent Social Worker, or Associate in Social Work is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of employment.
