The Position
Accountants are responsible for preparing financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the standards of the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
This Accountant 1, underfill for an Accountant 3 position, is located in Carson City. The position prepares the annual financial reports for the program for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), performs fiscal evaluations of potential loan borrowers, verifies and recommends account coding for document processing, and analyzes program cash flows for accuracy and efficiency. Internal controls are monitored and evaluated over program operations to ensure conformity to state and federal requirements and generally accepted accounting and auditing requirements. Additional work includes meeting with potential loan borrowers through site-visits or in-office meetings to assist them with both applying for funding and maintaining fiscal sustainability for their system. Presentations to the Board for Financing Water Projects is also required. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting; OR a bachelor's degree in business administration, finance or a related field which included 18 units in accounting, and one year of experience preparing GAAP-based financial statements; periodic State, federal or private grant fiscal reports and/or fiscal ad hoc reports used by internal and external entities; OR four years of experience in the accounting field, two years of which were at the Accountant Technician II level in Nevada State service performing the duties described above and 18 college credits in accounting.
Special Notes
    The required 18 college credits in accounting must include 6 credits of beginning accounting, 6 credits of intermediate accounting, and 6 credits of upper-division accounting courses.
