The Position
Disability Adjudicators evaluate disability claims and make determinations in accordance with laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures governing Social Security Disability Programs. Work involves the evaluation of medical evidence to make judgments about the presence, onset, clinical severity and prognosis of physical or mental impairments and determination of the vocational potential of claimants in order to allow or deny Social Security benefits.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This recruitment will be used to fill vacancies as they occur for the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation in our Northern Bureau of Disability Adjudication office. The position is an underfill for a Disability Adjudicator 3. Incumbents will progress to the next level when they meet minimum qualifications. Candidates who possess the experience for the Disability Adjudicator 3 position upon hire will be progressed to the DA 3 title on the second day of employment. Applicants for this position are subject to a favorable passing of federal background check in accordance with HSPD-12 requirements as a condition of employment. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a social science, health science, legal studies, business or public administration, or related field and one year of professional experience adjudicating claims for Social Security disability; managing a caseload; reading and interpreting medical and psychological diagnostic and treatment reports; and writing explanations of determinations of eligibility; OR Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in a social science, health science, legal studies , business or public administration, or related field and two years of professional experience as described above; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of professional experience described above; OR one year of experience as a Disability Adjudicator I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for fingerprinting.
Additional Position Criteria
    Experience adjudicating Social Security Disability claims is required.
