The Position
Professional Engineer Administrators are responsible for management of an assigned district, function or division in the Department of Transportation.
Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.
This position is located within the Hydraulics Division, Carson City. The Assistant Chief Hydraulic Engineer (ACHE) position will assist with administering the activities of the Hydraulic Section in the design of construction projects, administration of the Hydraulic Programs, and the application of design standards. This position also considers all Federal and Local regulations and establishes policy to modify the design standards, internal processes for documentation and record keeping, and protocol for coordinating with people internal and external to NDOT. The ACHE coordinates with Federal, Local, and Private stakeholders. This position also assists with procuring consultant and/or temporary resources as necessary to meet vision, mission, and goals of NDOT and to deliver Hydrologic and Hydraulic designs. The ACHE will directly monitor the work and designs produced by consultants and temporary staff to ensure that they comply with the consultant agreement and will make recommendations to the CHE for the final approval of the designs. The ACHE assists the CHE with managing the budget and balances needs with costs and assists with creating priorities such that the NDOT Mission and Goals are met, administers and oversees the implementation/construction of Hydrological and Hydraulic designs during construction by recommending for approval/denial any proposed Contract Modifications, and makes recommendations to the CHE for final approval of Hydraulic Standard Plan drawings and Specifications into NDOT's standard construction documentation. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Current licensure as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) and four years of progressively responsible professional engineering experience in a supervisory or responsible project charge capacity; OR one year of experience as a Manager II, P.E. in Nevada State service; OR two years experience as a Manager I, P.E. or Supervisor IV, P.E. in Nevada State service; OR licensure and an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    Any person registered as a Professional Engineer in another state must become registered as a Professional Engineer in Nevada within six months following the date of appointment and as a continuing condition of employment.
Special Requirements
    Registration as a Professional Engineer is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
