The Position
Agriculturists perform a variety of inspections and enforcement duties related to regulated agricultural programs such as seed testing and seed certification, commercial pest control licensing, commercial nursery inspection and licensing, vertebrate pest control, noxious weeds, insect and plant disease quarantine surveys, and commercial feed and agricultural product grading.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
This position is with the Department of Agriculture in Sparks, Nevada. This position will assist the Nevada produce safety program coordinator in providing outreach and education assistance on practices that minimize food safety risks on farms and in handling facilities. The position will be tasked with obtaining farm inventory data and will assist with developing a Nevada produce safety program. Regular interaction with the public, classroom training, and field work will be required of this position. In addition, grant report writing and travel throughout the state to provide produce safety training will be required. This position will also be required to assist with the Hemp program in reviewing applications, conducting inspections, and other regulatory activities as needed. This position requires travel up to 50%. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in agricultural science or related field; OR an equivalent combination of education and professional experience which provided experience in regulatory agricultural programs such as seed certification, pest control licensing, or enforcement of regulations related to agriculture and horticulture; OR graduation from high school or equivalent and two years of technical inspection and enforcement experience related to agricultural programs.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
