The Position
In the Records, Communications and Compliance Division of the Department of Public Safety, NCJIS (Nevada Criminal Justice Information System) Program Specialists provide training, conduct on-site compliance audits, provide quality control, and coordinate system access, upgrades, or enhancements for NCJIS users and recipients of the system's criminal justice information to ensure compliance with user agreements, established policies and procedures, federal and State laws, and to maintain the integrity of the system.
The Records, Communications, and Compliance Division (RCCD) is recruiting to fill an NCJIS Program Specialist Supervisor position within the NCJIS Compliance Unit in Carson City. Under general direction of the Program Manager, the incumbent provides direction and coordinates the activities of the NCJIS Compliance Unit which consists of Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR), NCJIS/NCIC Training, NCJIS/NCIC Compliance Audits, Non-criminal justice compliance audits, Program Development, and Systems Management. The incumbent reviews and approves all correspondence, agreements and contracts, and publications prior to distribution and recommends, develops, and implements program policy to improve program effectiveness and ensure program compliance with federal and state laws. A successful candidate possesses working knowledge of the rules and regulations necessary to successfully oversee this unit and working knowledge of the state and federal laws that affect the program areas. This position requires certification in NCJIS/NCIC within six months of employment and recertification every two years for continued employment. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, computer science, communications, business, or closely related field and 30 months of professional or technical experience providing training, conducting compliance audits, and providing quality control for a criminal justice information system (CJIS); OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and 42 months of professional or technical experience providing training, conducting compliance audits, and providing quality control for a criminal justice information system (CJIS); OR 18 months of experience as a NCJIS Program Specialist in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Certification in NCJIS/NCIC is required within six months of employment and recertification every two years for continued employment.
    An in-depth pre-employment, State fingerprint and FBI fingerprint background investigation are required of the selected applicant.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
