The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

JOB INFORMATION
Work Type: Permanent, full time vacancies as they may occur
in this geographical location.
Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. This position is located within the District Administration reporting to the District Traffic Engineer, Las Vegas. Incumbent is responsible for investigating and analyzing traffic flows; placement of traffic control devices including signs, traffic signals and pavement markings; and analyzing existing roadway conditions and traffic patterns to determine if modifications are required and initiate needed modifications and changes to improve the safety of the roadway.
The incumbent will make recommendations on overall concepts and phasing for traffic control, review traffic control plans to ensure proper design and approve for use on State roadways; review encroachment permits within area of expertise as part of the district's approval process; review plans and traffic studies to ensure safety and appropriateness of proposed design to mitigate impact on State roadways; make required design changes as necessary; recommend approval or denial; review temporary encroachment permits and recommend approval or require design changes for work in the State right-of-way, traffic impact studies, to ensure designs meet department standards; and approve or require design changes in order to prevent impact to State roadways. .**THIS POSITION MAY BE USED TO UNDERFILL A PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or closely related engineering field and two years of professional engineering experience; OR Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern, and two years of professional engineering experience in civil engineering or closely related engineering field; OR two years of experience as a Staff I, Associate Engineer or Supervisor I, Associate Engineer in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

An ABET accredited bachelor's degree in engineering (or equivalent as defined by the Nevada Board of Professional Engineers) or Engineer-in-Training certification is required.
Application and approval to take the State's professional engineering exam is required within one year of appointment.
