The Position
Public Information Officers manage the public relations and information program for an agency on a statewide basis; write media releases, newsletters, and informational brochures; produce audiovisual presentations and take photographs.
This position is located within The Division of Health Care Financing and Policy (DHCFP) and will be located in Carson City or Las Vegas, depending on the location of the selected candidate and needs of the agency. The ideal candidate for this Public Information Officer position will be a self-starter with fantastic communication and interpersonal skills and have knowledge of HIPAA laws. This position is responsible for outreach and engagement to internal and external customers, managing division social media accounts, and managing the retrieval, retention, and release of information and comprehensive records at DHCFP. The incumbent will act as a legislative liaison for DHCFP. In addition, this position will respond to media requests while following agency guidelines, policies, and regulations.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in journalism, English, public or community relations, communications or closely related field and two years of professional experience in public relations or public information including writing media releases and newsletters, preparing speeches and multimedia presentations; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A valid drivers license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
    Experience writing communications and media releases regarding Medicaid, health policy, or health insurance is required.
    Experience with HIPAA laws is required.
    Experience planning and publicizing events for large groups of people is required.
The Examination

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
