The Position
Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
The Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is recruiting for a Psychiatric Nurse 3, which functions as a nursing supervisor at Desert Willow Treatment Center (DWTC). DWTC is an inpatient psychiatric hospital located in Las Vegas, NV providing mental health treatment for children ages 12 to 17. This position provides positive supervision and leadership for professional nursing staff to include developing and monitoring discipline specific competencies; overseeing the tracking of all mandatory training for nursing staff; providing orientation, training, and education to all new and existing nursing staff; scheduling and ensuring safe and adequate staff-to -patient ratios on all patient care units 24/7; stabilization of emergencies while arranging for transport; providing direct nursing services when needed; interacting with the patients' families; observing staff and making recommendations concerning nursing care issues; working with staff to correct deficiencies; and ensuring building security the and safety of patients and staff.
The incumbent will also assist the Psychiatric Nurse 4 and Director of Nursing Services with administrative tasks and developing, reviewing, revising, and implementing policies related to patient care, nursing services and continuous quality improvement. The selected candidate will occasionally be required to work overtime to ensure that quality patient care is provided. This is a fulltime position with a variable work agreement, receiving overtime after 40 hours per week. DWTC operates seven days per week, 24 hours per day, with three shifts. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and three years of professional nursing experience, two of which included working in a facility or institution with individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities or intellectual disabilities; OR one year as a Psychiatric Nurse II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Notes
    A bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience.
    Out of state applicants must have a temporary license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing at the time of appointment and must obtain permanent licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing as a condition of continuing employment.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
