The Position
Foresters perform professional duties in forestry, natural resource management and conservation, fire prevention and suppression, and related areas.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. This position is responsible for leadership and guidance of all Seedbank and Biomass Management programming which includes supporting and guiding seed acquisition and application as well as biomass management approaches. The position also assists in the management of equipment used by field staff to perform program functions in the field. The position administers several grants from external cooperators and seeks additional grants that provide support for increasing seed supplies, rehabilitation and restoration activities, and biomass utilization processes and actions that lead to restored and healthy forests, rangelands and watersheds.
Grant administration duties include preparing annual grant solicitations, grant applications, annual reporting, ensuring compliance with state and federal guidelines, budget creation and budget tracking. The position is expected to work across programs in the Division to ensure that the agency is strategically moving toward goals and objectives as a whole. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in forestry or closely related natural resources field and two years of journey level professional natural resource experience in areas such as forest health, forest insect and disease identification and treatment, and vegetation management at a level comparable to Forester II or Nursery Specialist II; OR two years of experience as a Forester II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
