Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
The Division of Public and Behavioral Health's, Lake's Crossing Center (LCC) a maximum-security forensic facility is recruiting for several Psychiatric Nurse 2 positions. The mission of LCC is to provide forensic mental health services to mentally disordered offenders referred by the court system for evaluation of their competency to stand trial and/or be treated to restore competency. The Nursing Department at LCC provides professional psychiatric nursing care to clients while at the facility. Duties include but are not limited to dispensing medication, responding to medical emergencies, assessing medical needs, providing on going care, supervising and attending treatment groups, supervising clients in isolation, and at times assuming responsibility of nurse in charge. The environment requires a high level of security awareness as well as the physical stamina or ability to deal with maladaptive and aggressive clients.
Work schedules include day, evening, night, weekend, and holiday shifts. Incumbents will be working innovative schedules with overtime after 40 hours of work per week.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and two years of professional nursing experience, one of which included working in a facility or institution with individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities or intellectual disabilities; OR one year of experience as a Psychiatric Nurse I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. |

A Bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or Associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience.

Out of state applicants must have a temporary license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing at the time of appointment and must obtain permanent licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing as a condition of continuing employment. |
