Legal Secretaries perform specialized secretarial duties for attorneys, administrative law judges, and/or hearings/appeals officers including preparing legal documents and correspondence; calendaring; maintaining records; and providing assistance on routine problems and inquiries which are not of a legal nature.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position is grant funded and is not guaranteed to have funding beyond June 30, 2021. The position provides legal support and includes, but is not limited to, the following duties: preparing, formatting, and filing of legal correspondence and briefs, often through various e-filing platforms; maintaining electronic case files; operating several electronic case management databases, including ProLaw; maintaining case and general logs in various platforms, including Excel; preparing travel requests, travel claims for reimbursement, and other travel related tasks; distributing, scanning, preparing, and reviewing mail and electronic mail; interacting with other divisions, departments, state, county, city, and federal agencies, consumers, complainants, residents, and the public; and other duties as assigned. This position will also serve as a back-up to other legal secretaries in the division. Applicants must have the ability to compose, edit, and revise a wide variety of documents and correspondence, including, but not limited to, letters, memorandums, pleadings, reports, presentations, and brochures. Applicants must have strong organization and time management skills, comprehension skills, the ability to recognize and prioritize tasks, calendaring skills, and strong communication skills. Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of clerical experience, two of which were performing progressively responsible legal secretarial work in a training capacity; OR one year of experience as a Legal Secretary I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. |

An Associate of Science degree with a legal secretarial emphasis is equivalent to one year of legal secretarial trainee experience.

Completion of a legal secretarial diploma program from an accredited business college is equivalent to one year of legal secretarial trainee experience. |

A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. |
