Grounds Maintenance Workers perform landscape, garden and greenhouse duties such as planting, pruning, mowing, trimming, watering, fertilizing, weeding and snow and ice prevention and removal; and operate hand and power tools, power mowers, tractor mowers, trenching devices, forklifts and hoists.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
The Department of Administration, State Public Works Division, Buildings and Grounds section is seeking a Grounds Maintenance Worker 5. This position performs duties in Carson City and Reno areas comprised of 179 acres. This position reports to the Grounds Maintenance Supervisor 1. The incumbent must have experience with all aspects of irrigation: system installation, system maintenance, and system repair. This includes maintenance of grounds including mowing, trimming, edging, weeding, pest control and sprinkler repair and maintenance. This position also assists in set ups of special events and completes moving requests for state agencies. Snow and ice removal is mandatory. Incumbent must have a valid Nevada drivers license at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. This position works with inmate labor and the incumbent must be able to work flexible/rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays and standby/call back. This position requires a criminal history check that is the responsibility of the incumbent to pay for. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Three years of grounds maintenance experience, one year of which was installing, maintaining and repairing irrigation systems and related equipment; OR one year of experience as a Grounds Maintenance Worker IV in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |

Incumbents may be required to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays in addition to their normal work schedules. |
