The Position
Mid-Level Medical Practitioners may be either Advanced Practice Registered Nurses or Physician Assistants who provide medical care. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. This position supports SOUTHERN NEVADA ADULT MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES (SNAMHS) in Las Vegas. Practitioners may be Mental Health Advanced Practitioners of Nursing, Family Practice Advanced Practitioners of Nursing who are statutorily authorized to practice in the field of mental health, or Physician Assistants with psychiatric experience who provide psychiatric care across various treatment settings. Advanced Practitioners of Registered Nursing (APRN) work within the scope of practice of an APRN and practice protocols as set forth in the Nurse Practice Act, Chapter 632 of the Nevada Revised Statutes and Administrative Code. Physician Assistants (PA) provide psychiatric care in accordance with approved medical protocols as allowed under the supervising physician's scope of practice and Nevada Revised Statutes.
The position will assess and evaluate patients using knowledge and skill in psychiatric evaluation and the differential diagnosis of mental disorders in order to diagnose psychiatric conditions in accordance with the DSM-5 and recommend and implement evidence based treatment and care including comprehensive work-up, prescribing pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions and making appropriate referrals for management of patients? conditions that are outside of the scope of the practitioners. Incumbents must have ability to maintain equanimity in the face of defiance, resistance, verbal and physical hostility, ensure compliance with Joint Commission and CMS Standards, as well as established laws, regulations and SNAMHS policies. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Licensure by the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners or certification by the Nevada State Board of Osteopathic Medicine as a Physician Assistant; OR certification of recognition as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, Family Nurse Practitioner or Adult Nurse Practitioner issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing.
Special Requirements
    Current certification of registration or license to prescribe from the Nevada Board of Pharmacy is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Licensure to prescribe controlled substances from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Certification or licensure to dispense controlled substances, poisons, dangerous drugs and devices from the Nevada State Board of Nursing and Nevada Board of Pharmacy is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and/or Basic Life Support is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, positions in this series have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this series must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    Current licensure by the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners as a Physician Assistant; licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
    Experience working as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) in a psychiatric facility is required.
