The Position
Correctional Nurses provide professional nursing care to patients in a correctional setting.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. The Nevada Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is recruiting for a Correctional Nurse II position to be located at the Nevada Youth Training Center (NYTC) in Elko, Nevada. NYTC is a 60-bed staff secure facility for male youth ages 14 to 18. NYTC's goal is to promote positive self-growth, create change in behavior, attitudes, values and ways of thinking.
Responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to, providing professional nursing care in the facility by coordinating and evaluating health care services and treatment for the juveniles of the facility; maintaining pharmaceutical, laboratory and basic nursing supplies in an organized and efficient manner; conducting weekly doctor clinics; promoting workplace safety; medication administration; responding to medical and psychiatric emergencies; documentation; and being available as a professional resource for the facility staff regarding health and safety issues. This is a full-time position working the 2pm - 10pm shift. This will include weekends and holidays, with overtime after 40 hours per week. **Please ensure your application reflects your current nursing license information. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    License as a Registered Nurse and two years of professional nursing experience, one of which was in a correctional or institutional setting; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Notes
    A Bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or Associates degree in nursing and one year of experience.
    Out of state applicants must have a temporary license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada Board of Nursing at the time of appointment and must obtain permanent licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing as a condition of employment.
    Probationary employees must successfully complete pre-service training (PST) provided by the department.
    As a condition of appointment and continuing employment, positions are subject to call-back, overtime on short notice, stand-by status, and must work various hours and/or shifts including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Some positions require a valid driver's license at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
