The Position
Publications Editors perform technical and copyediting, provide research and editorial assistance to authors, and coordinate production of books, manuscripts, or magazines.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP) is looking for motivated, detail-oriented candidates to apply for a Publications Editor I position in Carson City. If hired for this unique position, you will be the primary editing and writing consultant for the agency, working closely with leadership, scientists, engineers, and administrative specialists to produce high-quality publications that support programs designed to protect Nevada's environment. You will be responsible for researching, designing, writing, and editing communications and publications in all environmental media (air, water, land), including webpages, brochures, correspondences, factsheets, guidance documents, technical reports, and more. The materials and documents you help produce will target a wide range of audiences, requiring you to work closely with subject matter experts to comprehend and communicate complex information from multiple technical and scientific disciplines. Other duties may include producing internal newsletters, collaborating on public-facing blogs covering regulations and environmental programs, and copy-editing public meeting minutes for clarity, concision, and accuracy. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in English, journalism or closely related field and one year of technical writing or editing experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
