The Position
Social Services Program Specialists perform administrative and professional work in conjunction with the administration of statewide public assistance, medical assistance, or social services programs.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
The Nevada Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is seeking a Social Services Program Specialist III (SSPSIII) located in Las Vegas or Carson City. This position involves statewide oversight and program development of child welfare program(s) as assigned. Foundational knowledge in Child Abuse and Neglect as it relates to the safety, permanency and well-being of children and direct child welfare practice experience is required. A knowledge of federal and state laws as it relates to permanency and foster care licensing is desirable. Under general direction of a manager, this position is required to coordinate, monitor and evaluate statewide Child Welfare programming. The position includes development and implementation of statewide policy incorporating federal law/regulation, state statute and best practice standards. During legislative sessions, this position is expected to analyze proposed legislation regarding the impact on child welfare programs. The position provides consultation and technical assistance to professional and managerial staff. The position conducts quality assurance and improvement activities related to child abuse and neglect in child welfare service cases, report writing, collaboration with stakeholders and grant oversight. The ability to identify and analyze critical data elements for quality assurance is desirable. Statewide travel may be required with this position. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field of study pertinent to the program assignment and two years of professional social services, medical assistance programs services, or healthcare services experience which included serving as a consultant to professional/supervisory program personnel; directing the operation of a program unit; coordinating program activities with officials and representatives of other agencies; interpretation and application of complex documents such as federal regulations, technical journals, and legislative studies; writing program policies, procedures, and reports; and conducting research and preparing recommendations for management; OR one year of experience as a Social Services Program Specialist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    This position requires statewide travel up to 25% of the time.
    A valid drivers license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
    Experience providing direct child welfare services related to child protective services, permanency/reunification, and/or adoptions or foster care licensing is required.
