The Position
Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection, Bureau of Water Quality Planning (BWQP) is seeking qualified applicants for an Environmental Scientist III position in the Water Quality Standards and Monitoring Branch in Carson City, Nevada. Responsibilities include evaluating water quality criteria and establishing water quality standards to protect beneficial uses of surface waters of the State; collecting chemical, biological, and physical data and information to support water-quality management programs within BWQP; assisting in development of Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs); assessing water quality of waterbodies in the State for development of the 303(d) list of impaired waters; and conducting special studies to address water pollution or impairment problems. Applicant must be comfortable using computers, databases, spreadsheets, and GIS software. The successful candidate will be an effective communicator who is collaborative and adaptable, and able to create and maintain positive, professional working relationships both internally and externally. The successful candidate is comfortable presenting information to a variety of audiences in a professional and articulate manner, and produces documents that are accurate and technically sound. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field and three years of professional environmental experience which involved environmental program research and planning; OR graduation from high school or equivalent and five years of professional environmental experience as described above; OR one year of experience as an Environmental Scientist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

    Some positions may require a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
