Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position's main duties are within the Dam Safety Program within the Engineering Section. The dam safety mainly requires inspections of existing dams across Nevada, and assisting in the plan review and permitting process for new dams or alterations to existing dams. The inspection of existing dams requires field work, as well as large amounts of data management. The permitting of new dams will require an in-depth knowledge of a broad range of civil engineering disciplines, as well as complex construction techniques.
There are other miscellaneous duties that this position is in charge of, such as managing water rights associated with a specific basin in Nevada, as well as, the operations and maintenance of the South Fork Dam. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field; OR two years of journey level technical experience equivalent to an Engineering Technician III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
