The Position
Social Services Program Specialists perform administrative and professional work in conjunction with the administration of statewide public assistance, medical assistance, or social services programs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. If you are ready to embark on the next step of your social service career, consider this exciting opportunity. The Division of Welfare and Supportive Services (DWSS) is currently seeking a Social Services Program Specialist 2 to join the Employment and Support Services team at Central Office, in Carson City.
The incumbent is responsible for the administration of the TANF Employment and Training Program (NEON), the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Employment and Training Program (SNAPET), Energy Assistance Program (EAP), and Workforce Development. Under direction of the Social Services Chief, the incumbent will support staff in the unit to include activities related to the maintenance and enhancement of the EAP, OASIS and other related system applications; research and analysis of statute, regulation and policy; drafting correspondence and policy documents; preparing and maintaining program and federal reports; training materials and presentations; providing field staff policy and system support; contract monitoring; and resolving vendor and vendor payment issues. We are looking for excellent verbal and written communication skills when interacting with co-workers, community partners, and stakeholders; ability to apply critical thinking skills by researching, analyzing and interpreting state and federal regulations; ability to self-motivate; and maintain high standards of professional integrity and confidentiality. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field of study pertinent to the program assignment and one year of professional experience providing social services to clients or program development and evaluation which required the application of regulations, laws, policies and procedures in making determinations; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field of study pertinent to the program assignment and one year of professional experience providing medical assistance programs services or healthcare services to clients or program compliance and evaluation which required the application of regulations, laws, policies and procedures in making determinations; OR one year of experience as a Social Services Program Specialist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Notes
    The ability to travel at least 25% of the time is required.

    This position requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
