The Position
Accounting Assistants perform clerical accounting work in the maintenance of accounts and accounting records for State agencies.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. This position is located within the Department of Health and Human Services, Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) - Nevada Early Intervention Services(NEIS) in Carson City, NV. ADSD provides an atmosphere of innovative thinking, teamwork, friendly co-workers, and provides a positive working environment. The mission of ADSD is to provide leadership and advocacy in the planning, development and delivery of a high quality, comprehensive support service system across the lifespan to allow all of Nevada's elders, children and adults with disabilities or special health care needs, to live independent, meaningful and dignified lives to the greatest extent possible.
This position performs medical billing and a variety of clerical accounting duties in support of the program. NEIS serves over 2000 plus infants and toddlers which creates significant medical billing activity with new case openings, record retrieval, submission and ongoing treatment services. Experience working with medical billing in a healthcare or social service setting is required. Responsibilities of this position includes: maintaining records and tracking balances for diverse general ledger groups and/or categories; preparing a wide variety of accounts receivable documents; and assigning accounting codes in compliance with complex rules, regulations and procedures. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of clerical accounting experience which must have included duties such as coding documents to distribute funds; preparing accounts payable and accounts receivable documents and balancing accounts; and using computer spreadsheets to record, track organize and report data; OR one year of experience as an Accounting Assistant I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
