The Position
Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position is located within the Nevada Department of Transportation's Construction Division Independent Assurance Lab in Reno, Nevada. This position will be responsible for conducting quality assurance Program Management to maintain compliance with 23 CFR Part 6378 and state regulations; maintaining compliance with and administration of the Independent Assurance Program; program development and management; Field Audit Testing and generating detailed inspection audit reports. This position requires Nevada Alliance for Quality Transportation Construction (NAQTC) or Western Alliance for Quality Transportation Construction (WAQTC) qualification and American Concrete Institute (ACI) certification within the first year. This position will also require up to 50% travel throughout the State, and working variable shifts and days (including weekends and holidays) in a wide range of temperatures and climates. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field; OR two years of journey level technical experience equivalent to an Engineering Technician III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Employees in this class who are not registered professional engineers may not represent themselves as such to other persons or entities.
Special Requirements
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
    This position will require working variable shifts and days at the discretion of the appointing authority.
    This position requires the ability to travel at least 50% of the time.
    This position will require NAQTC or WAQTC Qualification and ACI certification within the first year.
