The Position
Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position is located on the District II Bridge Maintenance Crew, Reno. Incumbent is responsible for assisting the Supervisor II, Associate Engineer with the coordination of the District Bridge Maintenance Program. This position requires occasional shift adjustments, including night work. Duties include bridge maintenance and structural inspection; recommending material and repair strategies; coordinating with Federal, State, County and local agencies for bridge repair contracts; preparing time/cost estimates; developing project scopes; coordinating and inspecting various construction activity for several district contracts. Including tracking quantities and reviewing and accepting invoices from contractors for completed work; Respond to any auto accidents that cause damage to bridge components and assess damages to determine a repair strategy; Developing project Special Provisions; Coordinating with local law enforcement to assist in managing the displaced human population that occupies the departments Right of Way; Review bridge inspection reports to determine candidates for future repair projects. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field; OR two years of journey level technical experience equivalent to an Engineering Technician III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Employees in this class who are not registered professional engineers may not represent themselves as such to other persons or entities.
Special Requirements
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
    This position requires working outdoors and involves exposure to hazards associated with working around heavy traffic and heavy equipment.
    This position requires occasional shift adjustments, including night work.
