Adult Rights Specialists provide assistance and advocacy to protect and enhance the health, safety, welfare and rights of older persons (adults 60 and older) and/or vulnerable persons (adults with intellectual, physical or related disabilities), henceforth referred to as clients.
This position is located within the Department of Health and Human Services, Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) - Long Term Care Ombudsman in Elko, NV. ADSD provides an atmosphere of innovative thinking, teamwork, friendly co-workers, and provides a positive working environment. The mission of ADSD is to provide leadership and advocacy in the planning, development and delivery of a high quality, comprehensive support service system across the lifespan to allow all of Nevada's elders, children and adults with disabilities or special health care needs, to live independent, meaningful and dignified lives to the greatest extent possible.
The Adult Rights Specialist will provide aid and advocate to protect and enhance the health, safety, welfare and rights of persons residing in long term care settings; investigate complaints made by or on behalf of residents residing in long term care settings (skilled nursing facilities, group homes, assisted living and homes for individual residential care); provide information to residents, family members, facilities, and other agencies regarding a variety of topics relative to elder care; and provide training on a variety of topics regarding resident rights, dignity and respect, quality of care and quality of life. The incumbent will assist in the development and support of resident and family councils, track trends in facilities, and make referrals to other agencies as appropriate; provide Medicaid outreach by providing the public information on Medicaid eligibility and services; and is responsible for mentoring the long term care ombudsman volunteers.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in social work, psychology, sociology or related social science or human services field, and one year of professional experience working with older and/or vulnerable persons investigating, mediating, negotiating, and resolving complaints which required the application of rules and regulations in making determinations and preparing detailed reports; OR one year of experience as an Adult Rights Specialist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. |

A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
