Correctional Nurses provide professional nursing care to patients in a correctional setting.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
Correctional Nurse II
This position is a under-fill recruitment to fill the Correctional Nurse III position.
After meeting the requirements for the Correctional Nurse III you will automatically progress into the Correctional Nurse III. In the under-fill position you will report to the Director of Nuring and will consult with them on a regular basis. They will communicate plans with team members by attending nursing meetings and sharing with other team members. Assist with team responsibilities and assignments as necessary. Use patient problems to plan patient care addressing chief presenting problems incorporating the plan of nursing care into the multidisciplinary treatment plan. Collect/document the medical/mental health conditions of patients using appropriate charting protocols. Complete health assessments. Collect statistical date, tracking current outpatient medications and patient outcome. Review inmates to determine need for referrals or assessmentThey will follow NDOC's Personnel Code of Ethic outlined in AR339. Observe all safety practices at all times for the safely of self and others. Follow Department accident reporting procedures. Comply with all OSHA guidelines.
They will be working directly with inmates to carry out nursing care assignments, promote optimal health and patient independence, document problems requiring nursing interventions, document patient teaching needs and discharge planning, communicate care plans to other nurses to maintain continuity of care.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

License as a Registered Nurse and two years of professional nursing experience, one of which was in a correctional or institutional setting; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. |

A Bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or Associates degree in nursing and one year of experience. |

Out of state applicants must have a temporary license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada Board of Nursing at the time of appointment and must obtain permanent licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing as a condition of employment. |

Probationary employees must successfully complete pre-service training (PST) provided by the department. |

As a condition of appointment and continuing employment, positions are subject to call-back, overtime on short notice, stand-by status, and must work various hours and/or shifts including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. |

A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. |

A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. |
|
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. |

CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience.
