The Position
Social Services Managers plan, organize, direct and manage the activities, staff and functions necessary to provide social services in an assigned region or district office and its satellites.
Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives. This position is located within the Department of Health and Human Services, Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) in Elko. ADSD provides an atmosphere of innovative thinking, teamwork, friendly co-workers, and provides a positive working environment. The mission of ADSD is to provide leadership and advocacy in the planning, development and delivery of a high quality, comprehensive support service system across the lifespan to allow all of Nevada's elders, children and adults with disabilities or special health care needs, to live independent, meaningful and dignified lives to the greatest extent possible.
The incumbent will oversee program operations of the ADSD office located in Elko, ensuring services are provided in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures in all five north eastern counties. ADSD program operations include a wide variety of social service programs for the disabled and elderly, as well as resource development, protective services, long-term care ombudsman, community outreach and provider recruitment. The incumbent will participate in ADSD administrative activities including policy and program development, management of financial resources, employee recruitment, training and evaluation. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in social work, health or social science, public administration or related field and two years of professional experience in the field of social services involving collecting and documenting detailed information, making determinations regarding requests for services, interpreting and applying federal and State regulations, and writing case summaries and reports. In addition, one year of the above experience must have been at the supervisory level; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Additional Position Criteria
    A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    This position is located in Elko.
The Examination
SOCIAL SERVICES MANAGER 1 (12.357) Training and Experience Exam
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question.
