Criminal Investigators in the Attorney General's Investigations Division perform criminal investigations involving violations of federal and/or State laws pertaining to a specific program or regulatory area which includes, but is not limited to, Medicaid fraud, workers' compensation fraud, consumer protection, public integrity, human trafficking, missing children, financial fraud, alleged criminal offenses committed by State officers or employees, and all types of conflict of interest cases submitted by outside agencies, along with participating in multi-jurisdictional task forces comprised of officers from federal, State and local enforcement agencies.
This position is located in our Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU). The MFCU's primary responsibility is the investigation and prosecution of Medicaid provider fraud. The MFCU also investigates matters involving abuse, neglect and exploitation of elderly and vulnerable adults in medical facilities. The successful applicant will be expected to conduct fraud investigations involving violations of federal and/or State law pertaining to a specific program or regulatory area such as Medicaid Fraud, which is specific to the grant restricted program.
Under general supervision, applicants must have the ability to review initial complaints, conduct interviews of witnesses and other law enforcement or State agency sources to obtain information regarding criminal and civil investigations. This position will obtain, review and analyze records and databases concerning criminal cases and civil false claims cases; as well as assist investigators and attorneys in existing criminal investigations and civil matters, including qui tam cases pursuant to federal and/or State law. The qui tam cases are typically large multistate investigations requiring the applicant to work in conjunction with other States in gathering data and information. The incumbent will maintain case files and develop reports for the work product to be used by others in a legal setting; gather and preserve evidence, document information, utilize case management tools; and develop final reports and information and investigative reports prior to initiating criminal and civil prosecution. Applicants must have the ability to conduct complex or difficult investigative assignments that may involve multiple criminal violations or suspects. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, police science, or closely related field; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of investigative experience involving standard investigative and enforcement techniques utilized to enforce local, State and/or federal laws and regulations; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. |

Applicants must meet the minimum standards for appointment as a peace officer as established in the Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS) and Nevada Administrative Code (NAC). |

AG Criminal Investigator I's must obtain and maintain, at a minimum, Nevada POST Category II certification within one year of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |
