Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This position will be responsible for assessment, inspection, and enforcement of State of Nevada and Federal regulations at U.S. Department of Energy sites in the State of Nevada. The incumbent will additionally be involved in writing and enforcing hazardous waste, solid waste, mixed waste, water pollution control and safe drinking water related permits as required per State of Nevada and Federal regulations for the Nevada National Security Site.
This position must obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, for which the incumbent will be required to undergo a comprehensive U.S. Department of Energy background investigation and participate in a State of Nevada mandatory medical monitoring program. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field and three years of professional environmental experience which involved environmental program research and planning; OR graduation from high school or equivalent and five years of professional environmental experience as described above; OR one year of experience as an Environmental Scientist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. |

A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |
