The Position
Employee Development Managers and Training Officers analyze, design, develop, implement, evaluate, manage and coordinate training and development for a department, division or a geographic region of a department's statewide training function and supervise and/or conduct sessions for vocation and/or skills training in specific occupational areas and general management development.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
The position will primarily be responsible for providing training & professional development to Nevada Department of Corrections (NDOC) non-custody staff. The incumbent establishes annual training goals and objectives; designs, develops, updates and implements training programs, courses and projects; ensures compliance with current legal mandates and NDOC policies and procedures; conduct and provide instructional assistance and services to employees from various occupational groups; and participates in the preparation and management of training operational budget. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in organizational behavior, education, communications, business or public administration or a related field and four years of professional experience planning and developing curriculum and coordinating and conducting training in an employer sponsored learning and development program including one year of experience supervising trainers and/or managing employee development programs; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and six years of professional experience as described above; OR one year of experience as a Training Officer II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.
The Examination
EMPLOYEE DEVELOPMENT MANAGER (07.513) Training and Experience Exam
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.
