Accounting Assistants perform clerical accounting work in the maintenance of accounts and accounting records for State agencies.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The Department of Taxation currently has Accounting Assistant 2 vacancies in Carson City. One position is responsible for researching accounts and entering information in order to revise existing taxpayer accounts or register new taxpayer accounts. Additionally, this position is responsible for posting and balancing payments received with the Nevada Business Registration application. This position also keys information into the Department's Tax Administrative System (TAS) that directly affects the collection of revenue for tax obligations, in compliance with Nevada Revised Statutes 372, 374 and 377. The other is part of the Accounting Mail Team. This position processes documents & payments into the Tax Accounting System (TAS) using information provided by taxpayers to include Sales/Use Tax (ST/BUS), Modified Business Tax (MBT), and Excise Tax and Accounts Receivable (AR) payments. This position is also responsible for processing the Carson City field batches that come over the counter. Additional duties involve scanning checks into the banking system, Advantage, preparing deposit slips, CR sheets, ensuring deposits are accurately entered and clearing suspended items within daily batches. The candidate chosen for this position must be able work within established deadlines, communicate effectively and maintain a good working relationship within a team environment. Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of clerical accounting experience which must have included duties such as coding documents to distribute funds; preparing accounts payable and accounts receivable documents and balancing accounts; and using computer spreadsheets to record, track organize and report data; OR one year of experience as an Accounting Assistant I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. |
