Youth Parole Counselors provide supervision, enforce parole agreements and stipulations, and determine appropriate placement, counseling, educational goals, and work programs of assigned youth; work directly with community-based placements, rehabilitation and counseling programs, schools, the juvenile justice system, local law enforcement agencies and families in developing an appropriate parole and treatment program.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. The Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is recruiting for a Youth Parole Counselor III to be located in Las Vegas or Carson City, depending on the most qualified candidate. This position will be the DCFS Statewide Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Investigator, responsible for completing administrative investigations on sexual abuse and sexual harassment allegations reported by youth housed in juvenile justice facilities located in Las Vegas, Caliente and Elko. Investigations include conducting interviews, reviewing video and documentation of incidents, participating in team reviews of incidents, and preparing investigative reports per federal law and state policy.
The incumbent may be expected to testify in a court of law in relation to PREA investigations and findings. This position may conduct other facility-based investigations as assigned and may conduct staff training. This position will require frequent statewide travel up to 50% of the time.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Graduation from a Category II peace officer academy approved by the Nevada Commission on Peace Officers' Standards and Training; a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, psychology, social work or closely related field; and three years of experience conducting casework services, making program eligibility determinations, preparing detailed reports, coordinating with law enforcement agencies, the juvenile justice system, child welfare system, and related State agencies regarding the preparation of parole agreements, placement, program development, obtaining services and the legal process of assigned youth; OR graduation from a Category II peace officer academy approved by the Nevada Commission on Peace Officers' Standards and Training; graduation from high school or equivalent education and five years of experience as described above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience; OR one year of experience as a Youth Parole Counselor II in Nevada State service. |
