The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

JOB INFORMATION

Licensed Psychologists provide psychological testing, evaluation, psychotherapy, counseling, and consultation to clients or inmates in residential, inpatient and outpatient settings, at a mental health, intellectual disabilities, or correctional facility, or in other settings where psychological services are provided.
Under the direct clinical supervision of a Licensed Psychologist, incumbents perform the duties described in the series concept in a trainee capacity. Incumbents may be automatically progressed to Licensed Psychologist I upon receipt of licensure as a psychologist in the State of Nevada. This Psychological Assistant position is an underfill for the Licensed Psychologist (LP) I position and is located within the Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) of Health and Human Services at Desert Regional Center (DRC) in Las Vegas in the Community Services Program. ADSD provides a collegial atmosphere of innovative thinking and teamwork. The mission of the ADSD is to provide leadership and advocacy in the planning, development and delivery of a high quality, comprehensive support service system across the lifespan to allow all of Nevada's elders, children and adults with disabilities or special health care needs, to live independent, meaningful and dignified lives to the greatest extent possible.
Psychological Assistants at DRC provide psychological testing, evaluation, psychotherapy, counseling, and consultation under the direct supervision of a Licensed Psychologist.
Psychological Assistants in Developmental Services work with individuals who have intellectual and/or developmental disabilities and related conditions; such as, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Seizures, Cerebral Palsy and Traumatic Brain Injury. In many cases the individuals served also have co-occurring mental health diagnoses.
Work responsibilities include psychological testing and comprehensive report writing which integrates developmental history, observations and test results. Psychological Assistants also provide behavioral consultations for individuals living in group homes and supervised work settings utilizing Person-Centered Planning and the principals of Positive Behavior Supports. They oversee the development of contextually appropriate behavioral support plans to mitigate challenging behavior and participate in team and clinical meetings to review the status of individuals served. Psychological Assistants provide crisis management as well as individual/group counseling or psychotherapy. They may serve on oversight committees or attend court hearings as directed by Administration. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
An active doctoral psychology internship agreement and/or a certificate of successful completion of a doctoral psychology internship program is required at the time of application.
Special Notes
Applicants for the Psychological Assistant must attach either their active doctoral psychology internship agreement, certificate of successful completion of their doctoral psychology internship program, or verification of their Doctorate in Psychology degree to their application in order to be considered eligible.
Psychological Assistant's must have a Doctorate in Psychology and approval as a Registered Psychological Assistant by the State of Nevada Board of Psychological Examiners at the time of appointment.
Special Requirements
Psychological Assistants must be approved as a Registered Psychological Assistant by the State of Nevada Board of Psychological Examiners at the time of appointment and must remain in good standing with the Board as a condition of continuing employment.
Some positions may be required to work on evenings, weekends and holidays.
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicants.
A valid Nevada driver's license or equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Skills Required
Fluent in Spanish and English.
