The Position
Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives. Lake's Crossing Center (LCC), a maximum security forensic/psychiatric hospital, is recruiting for a Psychiatric Nurse 4 position. The agency provides forensic mental health services to mentally disordered offenders referred by the court system for evaluation of their competency to stand trial and/or treated to restore competency.
As a member of the professional staff at LCC, the Psychiatric Nurse 4 position will function as the head of the Nursing Department, assist the agency director position and provide professional psychiatric nursing care to clients while at the facility. Additionally, the incumbent will be responsible of community education and the security and safety of the Nursing Department. Duties include identifying clients health care needs, making comprehensive clinical observations and evaluations of clients health needs, recording and reporting indicative signs and symptoms of clients physical and mental condition; developing nursing care plans, identifying immediate and long-term care goals; planning, organizing, and ensuring adequate nursing coverage, supervising and directing nursing staff; writing, reviewing and implementing policies and procedures; acting as the Officer of the Day by providing professional intervention and consultation, participating in a multidisciplinary treatment team and clinical operations committees; conducting group therapy and educational events pertain to the Nursing Department; using email and other technology as methods of communication for urgent matters, and performing other duties as assigned. The hours are 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday. However, hours may vary and include evenings and weekends depending on the needs of the agency. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and five years of profes­sional nursing experience including two years in a supervisory capacity and four years of experience in a facility or institution working with individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities or intellectual disabilities; OR two years as a Psychiatric Nurse III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Notes
    A bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience.
    Out of state applicants must have a temporary license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing at the time of appointment and must obtain permanent licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing as a condition of continuing employment.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
