The Position
Maintenance Repair Specialists perform a variety of skilled work in two or more of the mechanical and construction trades in order to repair, construct, and/or maintain buildings, grounds and equipment.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. This position is with the Department of Administration, State Public Works Division, Buildings and Grounds section in Carson City, Nevada. This position reports directly to the Facility Supervisor III. The work schedule is Monday through Friday and the hours are 8 am to 5 pm with an hour lunch. This position will be performing journey level, skilled work in the building and mechanical trades to repair, construct, alter and/or maintain buildings, facilities, grounds and equipment, including, but not limited to, skilled plumbing, carpentry, painting, electrical, mechanical, equipment maintenance and repair, concrete work, welding/machining.
The incumbent will organize and maintain records of work performed according to Division procedures and guidelines; prepare and submit reports/requests as required and/or requested, including but not limited to, work orders, credit card purchase slips, vehicle mileage and maintenance report, timesheets, leave requests, etc.; plan, layout and prepare cost estimates for projects; and purchase material, maintain inventories and solve issues/problems involved in maintaining buildings, facilities and equipment. This position may require traveling to multiple locations and may require a flexible work schedule for emergency situations (stand-by-status) and projects as they arise and call backs. This position will participate in the on-call rotation. A criminal history background check is required for this position, and the incumbent will be required to pay for this. Incumbent must have a valid Nevada driver's license prior to appointment and as a condition of continued employment. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Four years of progressively responsible experience under the supervision of journey level trades persons in two or more of the major building or mechanical trades which included responsibility for performing a variety of repair and maintenance activities, laying out jobs and ordering materials; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Notes
    This position is subject to standby and call back status.
    Incumbents may be required to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays in addition to their normal work schedules.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    A valid driver's license is required at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    This position may require flexible/rotating shifts.
    This position may require work on nights/weekends/holidays.
Additional Position Criteria
    This position requires working with and supervising inmates.
